You could live anywhere in the U.S., as long as you are near a major airport. You’ll need to be willing and able to travel up to 30%  of the time.

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you must be a U.S. citizen. In addition, to be a good fit as the FAE, you will have:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical Engineering)
  • 3 to 5 years of experience designing small electro-mechanical devices.
  • Ability to modify and customize devices to create application-specific solutions to customer requirements.
  • Deep technical aptitude for small electromechanical components
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written; ability to work directly with customers to gain information, share information and describe potential new products.
  • The ability and willingness to work with a remote, global team of Manufacturing Engineers based in Taiwan, to ensure successful product implementation.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, to communicate with global customers and team members based in various time zones.
  • Experience with potentiometers, encoders, position sensors, and/or simulation software preferred but not required.

You will be expected to travel 30% to 50% of the time, mostly within North America with alongside Business Development Managers, Account Managers, Sales Managers or Product Managers, as well as occasional travel to Taiwan to meet with the Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

Reporting to the Senior Product Manager for Electronic Components, you will work closely with the Business Development and Account Management teams and will be responsible for designing/redesigning CTS sensor technology to drive new business growth. At a high level, you will be working on application-specific solutions based on the technology we already have and finding creative ways to apply our technology to solve customer needs.

This is a customer-facing role and your main goal will be to support the sales team, listen to customer feedback, understand customer needs and wants, and then merge our capabilities with their requests to make recommendations for appropriate solutions that are both manufacturable and affordable. There is a great deal of flexibility as you come up with solutions, as these projects are not necessarily about finding the least-cost option; rather, you are working towards and ideal to create value for the customer.

Most of your time (80 to 90%) will be spent designing, adapting, adjusting, and validating, with the rest spent on customer-facing activities such as interfacing with vendors, along with other administrative work. You’ll travel with the sales team about once per month to meet customers, and will engage with customers via calls and emails fairly frequently during the design process. You’ll complete all of the tasks associated with product development, from proof of concept to test and validation, working side-by-side with the sales team to gain continued feedback and ensure you’re on the right path.

Some of your specific tasks will be to:

  • Design electromechanical sensor assemblies, including potentiometers, position sensors, and harness assemblies.
  • Drive design development through proof of concept, rapid prototype, initial production, and mass production phases.
  • Drive rapid prototype development of custom components to assist customer test and validation processes.
  • Closely study competitors’ products to understand their processes, capabilities, and any advantages.
  • Create drawings and part numbers for finished assemblies and components, as required.
  • Communicate with existing and prospective customers to understand application details, performance requirements, and price targets.
  • Make recommendations for appropriate solutions and communicate with engineers regarding recommendations.
  • Manage numerous projects from conception, design, prototype, and production implementation.
  • Communicate with manufacturing team in Taiwan regarding designs, tooling, processes, prototypes, samples, and capabilities.
  • Source components and materials as needed to support designs.
  • Support Sales Team in technical aspects of the sales process.
  • Be a Subject Matter Expert and technical resource for Sales, Business Development, CTS Reps, and Distributors.
  • Assist Senior Product Manager in conducting product training, internal and external.
