Title:  Applications Engineer, Electromechanical


Job/Position Summary

Key responsibilities include acting as a liaison for all new product and technologies as well as supporting current product issues related to engineering functions. Responsible for designing/ redesigning CTS sensor technology to drive new business growth. At a high level, working on application-specific solutions based on the technology we already have and finding creative ways to apply our technology to solve customer needs.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Design electromechanical sensor assemblies including potentiometers, encoders, position sensors, and harness assemblies.
  • Drive design development through proof of concept, rapid prototype, initial production, and mass production phases.
  • Drive rapid prototype development of custom components to assist customer test and validation processes.
  • Reverse engineer competitors’ products to understand manufacturing processes, components, and capabilities.
  • Create drawings and part numbers for finished assemblies and components, as required.
  • Communicate with existing and prospective customers to understand application details, performance requirements, and price targets.
  • Manage numerous projects from conception, design, prototypes, and production implementation.
  • Communicate with manufacturing team in Taiwan regarding designs, tooling, processes, prototypes, samples, and capabilities.
  • Source components as needed to support designs.
  • Support Sales Team in technical aspects of the sales process.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to work directly with customers to gain information, share information, and describe potential products
  • The ability and willingness to work with a remote, global team of Manufacturing Engineers based in Taiwan to ensure successful product implementation
  • The ability to work flexible hours, as needed, to communicate with the Manufacturing Engineering team in Taiwan; with differing time zones you will be expected to regularly attend meetings outside of normal business hours


Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferably mechanical engineering)
  • 3-5 years of experience designing small electro-mechanical design, modification, and customization to create application specific solutions to customer requirements
  • Preferred experience with Potentiometers, Encoders, and/or Position Sensors

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work several hours at a computer
  • Ability to travel frequently (domestic and international) as needed
