The Requirements

To meet the basic qualification for this role, you will have legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship. In addition, to be a good fit for the Global Advanced Tooling and Molding Manager opportunity, you will have:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another technical discipline preferred. We'll also consider candidates with an outstanding technical background in lieu of a degree
  • Journeyman mold/die maker certificate preferred but not required
  • Computer-aided design (CAD) training
  • Minimum of 10 years of tooling experience including: 
    • Minimum 6 years of tool design experience
    • Minimum 5 years of management experience highly preferred
  • Global experience working with suppliers, ideally in Asia and/or Europe; existing supplier relationships are a plus
  • Prototype and production tooling and molding experience; experience with continuous improvement methodologies related to molding and tooling that drive high quality and lower costs. Experience in automotive desirable
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (Europe and Asia) approximately 20-30%. Travel tends to ebb and flow, so flexibility is key

 

The Role

Explore the primary responsibilities of the Global Advanced Tooling and Molding Manager position.

Reporting to the Vice President of Global Operations, as Global Advanced Tooling and Molding Manager, you will lead, direct, and manage the Sensors and Mechatronics tooling and molding operations with the highest focus on quality and attaining key cost objectives. Your key responsibilities will include quoting, planning, and scheduling the design, procurement and build of prototype and production molds, supporting the manufacturing facilities with mold processes and mold tooling issues, and the standardization of equipment, processes, and mold tooling best practices. Additionally, you will drive continuous improvement projects that ensure flawless molding related DV/PV and product launches. Your primary objectives will include:

  • Managing multiple projects through program managers ensuring they are on time and on budget.
  • Ensuring design for manufacturability -- effective and limited tool trials and production runs without issue
  • Helping develop and build strong supplier relationships
  • Standardizing tool design and process for cost-effectiveness and ease

More about the role
In addition to the description of your duties under The Role, your major areas of responsibility will be to:

  • Manage multiple tooling projects
    • Organize work, assign new projects, and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Develop tooling concepts and solve tooling problems
    • Work with process engineering, tool design and tool room personnel to develop new tooling concepts. 
    • Leverage knowledge and ability to help solve problems that arise in production
    • Prototype tools through a structured problem-solving methodology.
  • Manage tool design and build activities
    • Responsible for quoting molds, dies, prototype tools and replacement tooling
    • Work with outside vendors to quote, design and build tools used in CTS Automotive facilities 
    • Review mold flow analysis to reduce to minimal tool tuning loops 
  • Develop global suppliers
    • Direct and manage the selection/evaluation process of tooling suppliers along with support from the purchasing organization
    • Work with Purchasing and appropriate personnel to assess and qualify viable suppliers worldwide by benchmarking costs internal vs. external to choose the optimal approach 
  • Oversee budgets, spending and administration
    • Direct and approve the development of budgets for all areas of tooling departmental services. 
    • Lead the support group in the identification of cost reduction opportunities and real-time spending adjustments in accordance with the business environment
  • Drive the standardization of the mold tooling and mold process
    • Lead the standardization of new tooling and works to improve existing tooling to align with those standards. 
    • Lead molding process standardization across the business units
  • Support SBU strategic planning
    • Participate in the automotive SBU strategic planning objectives by creating tactical plans that support the corporate goals, objectives, and initiatives.
