Summary

This position provides product development and project launch leadership.  The role leverages CAE tools such as CAD, FEA, MATLAB, and mold-flow analysis as well more manual techniques such as traditional free-body diagram analysis and models developed in tools such as Microsoft Excel to develop product designs to meet requirements functional requirements as well as requirements for strength, durability, and manufacturability. The position will provide training and guidance to other engineers and technicians.  This position requires someone who can manage technical execution and may involve a larger amount of CAD work at times, as well as communication directly with customers at some stages of product development to communicate technical information and gain customer confidence & approval.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Lead engineering activities to support accelerator pedal module development.
  • Mechanical design using Solid Edge software, as well as tolerance stack-up analyses, mathematical modeling of product function and performance, etc.
  • Work with product teams to ensure best possible design through CAE & analysis as needed.
  • Lead team to develop new CAE skillsets, as well as correlate results of CAE to product performance.
  • Lead team to ensure product design and performance compliance with internal & external requirements.
  • Ensure adequate project and technical communications (e.g. meetings, oral reports, technical reports) with CTS personnel, management, customers, and suppliers. 
  • Manage technology development and integration into existing and new product/process opportunities.
  • Contribute to product roadmap planning when possible.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive industry procedures/systems, e.g., IATF-16949, APQP, FMEA, change control processes, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of cause and effect relationships to provide the skill to identify and solve problems using tools such as FTA, 8D, 5-why analysis, fishbone analysis, DOE etc. 
  • Experience with DFMEA and/or DRBFM. 
  • Experience with Solid Edge or similar CAD program.
  • Experience with FEA, Mold Flow, hand calculations, tolerance stack-ups, etc.
  • Technical knowledge / experience with plastics.
  • Self-motivated and results orientated, proactive with outstanding planning and follow up skills.
  • Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects/tasks, including projects involving global teams.
  • Able to communicate and write effectively resulting in a clear understanding of the issues.
  • Ability to use Microsoft office required.
  • Automotive Quality Standards experience required.
  • Familiarity with high volume production products preferred.
  • Familiarity with test and validation of products preferred.

 

Education and Experience

  • Technical Bachelor’s Degree required.  Working toward, or possessing a higher degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Automotive experience required.
