Position Summary

This position is responsible for leading and supporting dimensional metrology, measurement system development, and data analysis activities for automotive sensor and mechatronic products. The Metrologist will ensure measurement accuracy, repeatability and compliance with internal specifications, customer requirements and automotive quality standards.

This role supports new product development, validation, and production launch activities while working cross-functionally with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and external suppliers. The job requires in-office work.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CMMs, vision systems and other precision measurement equipment to support dimensional analysis of sensors and mechatronic components and assemblies.
  • Develop, validate and maintain measurement systems to support new product development, PPAP submissions and production control plans.
  • Perform and lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA), including Gage R&R, bias, linearity and stability studies.
  • Support APQP activities including control plans, PFMEA inputs, capability studies and launch readiness.
  • Develop and document Dimensional Measurement Plan (DMPs), work
  • Ensure calibration system compliance and traceability to national/international standards.
  • Analyze dimensional and performance data to identify trends, root causes and process improvement opportunities.
  • Support internal and external audits related to metrology and measurement systems.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to engineers, technicians and inspectors regarding proper measurement techniques and data interpretation.
  • Interface with customers and suppliers on measurement-related topics, including correlation studies and capability validation.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of automotive quality systems, including IATF-16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA and change control processes.
  • Strong understanding of measurement system capability, statistical analysis and problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DOE).
  • Experience in performing and interpreting Gage R&R and other MSA studies.
  • Proficiency with CMM programming and operation (e.g., Mitutoyo or similar software).
  • Experience with optical measurement systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance stack-up requirements.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Self-motivated and results oriented with outstanding planning and follow-up skills.
  • Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple projects/tasks in a fast-paced automotive environment.
  • Able to communicate and write effectively resulting in a clear understanding of technical issues.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams.
  • Proficient in MCOSMOS v5 and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience supporting high-volume production environments preferred.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Metrology, Quality or related technical field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of metrology or dimensional quality experience in an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience supporting automotive sensor, electronic or mechatronic products preferred.
  • Certification in GD&T or ASQ Certified Quality Technician/Engineer preferred.

 

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand for extended periods while operating measurement equipment.
  • Frequent use of hands for handling small sensor components and precision instruments.
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Visual acuity required for inspection of small components and interpretation of measurement results.
  • Occasional travel may be required to support customers or suppliers.

  • Work is performed in a combination of office and laboratory environments.
