Position Summary

Provide and administer Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs throughout the facility.  Maintain compliance with on-going requirements and determine applicability of new laws, and regulations to facility operations (and inform management of potential impact). 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS requirements applicable to the facility.
  • Manages EHS training requirements for the site.
  • Develop and implement required EHS programs.
  • Lead incident investigations to determine root causes and corrective action plans.
  • Complete and file regulatory reports and forms as required.
  • Communicate with regulatory officials regarding various permitting requirements.
  • Conducts EHS audits and inspections within the various departments.
  • Determine applicability of new laws, regulations and regulatory initiatives and assess the impact of the changes on the facility.
  • Facilitate risk assessment at the location to identify EHS hazards and develop strategies for mitigation.
  • Drives and promotes zero EHS incident culture throughout the site.
  • Manages the wastewater treatment plant, hazardous waste operations, and wastewater treatment technicians. 
  • Develop schedules of maintenance and associated activities for wastewater treatment
  • Ensures wastewater discharge meets any applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Identifies and implements improvement plans to reduce pollution discharge in wastewater.
  • Provides technical expertise in sampling and analysis methods for wastewater treatment plant.
  • Monitor processes and waste collection/treatment equipment and recommend improvements.
  • Other related duties as directed by management.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment facility and plant water flow pattern.
  • Experience with the maintenance and repair of wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable EHS regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate EHS information to all employees.
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and performance management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of wastewater sampling and testing methods.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Chemistry, Environmental or related Engineering or physical Sciences or related discipline. Experience in lieu of education can be considered.
  • 4 year technical experience working with wastewater treatment and/or hazardous waste material handling.
